Yogyakarta, often called Jogja, is a special city in Indonesia that is rich in history, culture and natural beauty. Located on the island of Java, this special region has an area of 3,185.80 km², consists of one city and four districts. Yogyakarta is called as "Kota Pelajar" in Indonesian, literally meaning "The Student's City". It is also renowned as one of the top tourist destination in Indonesia, situated between volcanic mount Merapi in the north and Indian Ocean in the south, and having a very rich culture and history. Jogja's uniqueness is reflected in the traditions of its people and the friendliness of its people. It's not surprising that many tourists feel warmth and togetherness when visiting.
Yogyakarta is accessible through multiple transportation options. Fly into Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) for air travel, or a train journey to Tugu Station from major cities in Java. From the airport, you can directly take the train from this airport to the city centre. Once in Yogyakarta, navigate the city with local options like taxis, ride-sharing services, or the iconic three-wheeled becak for a convenient exploration of this culturally rich destination. The Trans Jogja bus system will get you to most parts of the city and there’s Grab (same just like Uber) and Gojek now operating in the city, which are reasonably cheap.
